SUTTON, W.Va. – September 13, 2019 – The West Virginia FILMmakers Festival, will be held in Sutton’s Elk Theatre the weekend of October 4, 5 & 6, 2019, is announcing its Call for Nominations for FILMmaker of the Year and IMPACT Award Winner.
The West Virginia Filmmaker of the Year Award is given to the filmmaker whose most recent work or lifetime work has had the utmost impact on the WV film industry. The WVFF board of directors oversees the Filmmaker of the Year selection. The Nomination Committee consists of Previous WV Filmmakers of the Year, WVFF Board, and professionals from around the state to arrive at the broadest consensus possible.
Previous FILMmaker of the Year winners include: Elaine McMillion Sheldon (2018); Larry Dowling (2017); Chip Hitchcock (2016); Jacob Young (2015); Lawrence Cumbo (2014); John Nakashima (2013); Bob Gates, deceased (2012); Robert Tinnell (2011); Mari-Lynn Evans (2010); Russ Barbour (2009); Steve Gilliland (2008); C. Shawn Bennett (2007); Gerry Milnes (2006); B.J. Gudmundsson (2005); Raymond Schmitt, deceased (2004); and Daniel Boyd (2003).
The Impact Award is to honor the individual whose most recent work or contributions – during the twelve (12) calendar months between festivals – has had utmost effects on the West Virginia film industry, or simply upon the culture of film and media creation within the state. The West Virginia FILMmakers Festival Board of Directors oversees the selection.
Previous IMPACT Award winners include: Josh Baldwin (2017); and Justin Litton (2016).
To nominate a filmmaker summit the name, work to be considered for the award, and statement (less than 200 word) about the filmmaker. Include all information you deem will assist others on the nominating committee on making their vote.
