SUTTON, W.Va. – August 29, 2016 – West Virginia FILMmakers Festival is pleased to announce Kick Off Screenings for the 17th Annual WV FILMmakers Festival to be held in September. Kick Off screenings give FILMmakers and film lovers the opportunity to view a morsel of the fantastic films that will be screening in Sutton, WV at The Elk Theatre starting Friday, September 30th to Sunday, October 2nd.
The Alban Arts and Conference Center in St. Albans will host the first Kick Off Screening on Thursday, September 8th at 7:30 pm. The Alban was built in 1938 as a Movie House. In 2008, with inspiration and direction from Mayor Richard Callaway, renovations were made to create the new Alban Arts and Conference Center. In 2010, the Alban announced theater season with its production of Annie. The show was directed by newly-hired, theater manager, Adam Bryan, and in one night, the City of St. Albans emerged as a forerunner of arts and culture in the valley. Alban Arts and Conference Center is located at 65 Olde Main Plaza, Saint Albans, WV 25177.
The second Kick Off Screening will be held at The Lewis Theatre in Lewisburg, WV, at 7:30 pm. The Lewis Theatre opened in 1939. The Lewis was reconfigured in 2009 with stadium seating, a floor level performance stage, theatrical lighting, a DVD projector, deco style interior painting and backstage work. Second and first run movies, plus some foreign, classic and documentary films are shown almost every night. Live performance is featured 1-3 times a month. Classes and rehearsals for Trillium Performing Arts, founded 1982 as a community and professional nonprofit arts organization, take place on stage. Private rentals are also available. The business is owned locally and family operated. The Lewis is located at 113 N Court St, Lewisburg, WV 24901.
The FILMmakers Festival Kick Off Screenings are 90 minutes in entirety. Tickets may be purchased at the theatre before the screening. For more information visit: wvfilmmakersfestival.org/festival
